Meet The Artist ꩜꩜

I’ve always known I was meant to lead a creative life, and I’ve found that purpose through yarn.

Creativity has run hand in hand with my life. I’m an artist, a maker, a “jack of all trades.” It’s simply what makes my clock tick. I’ve spent the last three years studying fashion and textiles in college, and as life has spit me out on the other end of academia, I’ve found myself in the midst of an opportunity.

I’ve always been a creative person, but I truly discovered my love for working with natural fibers, spinning and the slow and intentional creativity in textile arts this past year. The drop spindle alone is nearly ten thousand years old, and there’s something so magical about carrying the crafts by hands of millenia through my own creativity. I created Emma Lou Fibers to share an extension of my love, my passion, and my work.

Since my first shaky draft of fiber or knit stitch towards a hand knit sweater, I’ve become absolutely encapsulated by fiber and yarn. I’m inspired by nature- by water, trees and plants. I love the way patterns and colors can remind us of our favorite mountains or rivers. I find peace in the circularity of nature’s existence, and the way there is so much beauty in simply living! Every piece I share is an embodiment of the natural flow of creation made with the gears turning and colors blending however I feel called to. For that reason, every item is truly one of a kind.

In terms of myself, I love folk art, I love vintage quilts, and I love the way a bright pair of socks can completely turn around a day. I find inspiration in everything around me, mainly the small things. I love to take my time and laugh while I do it. I love to feel the sun on my face and enjoy ice cold tea in the summer. I love the mountains, my cats and my yarn- this is Emma Lou!

I hope you find love in my work, and feel inspired to create because of it! Thank you for choosing to enjoy Emma Lou Fibers and Art, and in that, supporting my dreams.
